Kayaks on Tow Vehicle

Anybody carrying kayaks on Yakima type bars on cab of f350 long bed while towing fifth wheel. Kayaks are 12-13' long. Is there enough clearance? My kayaks now are 16 feet but I will move to as short as 12 feet. Just wondering if anyone has been doing this. I am aware of other methods and places to transport the kayaks but was interested specifically in carrying them on the cab if possible. Thanks.

Don't know why yaks couldn't be transported that way. My daughter has a CC 2500 short box that she pulls her fiver with and she carries a 15 foot Old Town canoe on top with no problem.

I now have a 12' kayak that fits inside the 5th wheel. My next kayak will be 10' or maybe 11.5'.

I have seen a few set-ups that carry from the roof to over the hood on a front mounted bracket.

I'm glad you mentioned that front bracket. I knew about that but had forgotten. That definitely means that kayaks of 12-14 feet can be accommodated without worrying about a conflict between the kayaks and the front of the fiver.

Thank you. That's reassuring.

Here is a pic of one type of front bracket.
I have also seen a front bracket that jas one vertical support with a horizontal bar on top to support the kayak. For people that have 14 to 16 foot kayaks this os abput the only way to carry them.

That's perfect. My kayaks are 16' now but I'll change to 12-14.

In the RV Park that I used to snowbird in there were about 1/2 dozen set-ups like this I saw just in my section of the park. Seemed like a common way to carry two long kayaks.

Actually, there is somewhere around 6k miles on this setup. The rack is secured to the truck frame and the exhaust stack uprights.

I was actually referring in jest to the car perched on the back of the semi after having ascended those ramps when I mentioned disaster waiting to happen.....[emoji33]

There is a deck/platform the car sits on and is strapped down to.

ID:	180707 These are 10 foot kayaks just for reference purposes. I thought for 16' Kayak or my 17' Canoe I would use the front hitch type rack. You said 12' to 14' so I'm thinking 12' easy enough this way but 14' I would have to test for that extra 4' hanging out front.
