While in the market for our 5er, we found a Grand Design we liked. Turned out to be too heavy. The salesman quoted the dry weight +750lbs and said we were good. I told him I prefer to use the GVWR of the trailer. He then had a his 'lead engineer' join the conversation and proceeded to tell me they work with a company that can upgrade my springs, and thus upgrade the specs of my TV. yea, right.

Bottom line: Buyer be Educated

Salesmen exist for one thing and one thing only ...... selling. You are the responsible party on the road.

Question TT capability

Yes, buyer's need to do the homework. That said, sometimes not everything is able to be researched until you have had the experience. I also think a large part of the capability problem, and not just with the salesman, but also the engineers who draft the designs, is that very few have "actually used them" for the designed purpose. Case in point, wanted to tow a 5'er with a 2500 truck. (wont mention brand as irrelevant),All specs said it would handle tow weight. Salesman of course in agreement. Now, having never towed one, and of course not being able to tow until receiver hitch was installed, What do you believe. Sadly, I was not aware of the tow comparisons that were on line. Needless to say, I was sorely disappointed in the trucks ability to tow. I did get assistance from dealer and mfg'r in working through the issues, but still wound up spending more to get the desired towing "after spending well over 50k. Maybe I expect more out of a "truck" than most but sure think most are sorely lacking for what many of us have in mind when towing the larger trailers. Just my thoughts.. An "Old Geezer". lol
