Locking hitch pin

Hello all.

I recently bought a locking hitch pin at walmart so I wouldn't have to take out my reese weight distributing hitch so often since we travel so much. But after looking at the original pin that came with the hitch I'm having second thoughts about hauling with the locking pin because I'm not sure if it might have trouble handling the trailer or anything like that.

Could this types of pins be made to haul smaller loads or does it matter? I'm just worried about the pin snapping in half while I'm pulling my trailer.

Here's the pin I bought: Amazon.com: Reese Towpower 7006000 Stainless Steel Dual Bent Pin Receiver Lock: Automotive

thanks!

Did you read that entire webpage? One review says it is chrome-plated steel, not SST. Reese makes a quality product lineup, I would believe the Reese literature and warranty: || REESE PRODUCTS || I have used Reese products since back in the 1970's without any problems.

I use the factory Reese pins when towing and insert locking pin when not. Never even thought about locking pin for first 10 yrs of owning a 5ver. Then a friend had his hitch stolen while in a larger city.

The hitch pin doesn't experience any side-side pressure, only the pin shaft itself bears the load. I think you are concerned about the small locking area on the pin?--That shouldn't be a problem in towing. I have off and on used one of those locking pins on pretty good loads and never had a problem with them, except the lock cover letting dirt into the lock.
