I am attempting to calculate my truck's GCWR and having no luck so far. It is a 1996 F350 crew cab longbed 4X4 with the 7.3 turbodiesel engine. The mfg plate gives it a GVWR of 9200. But the owner's manual lists every possible model's GCWR *except* for the diesel. This is also true of the original paper manual in the glove box.

Does anyone happen to have this information or know of a source? Otherwise I'll have to pony up for the hard copy from Trailer Life ($4 by mail I think).

95 F-350 Gcwr - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

In my experience, GCWR is the rating for the total combination of loaded vehicle plus loaded trailer together. This rating is different depending on what engine and axle ratio you have. From this rating, the tow rating is figured. You subtract the actual curb weight of the truck from the GCWR and what is left over is the max trailer weight rating.

A free phone call to Contact Ford - Ford might uncover the answer.

I have always been confused by Ford's CGWRs, in theory GCWR is rated by the drivetrain and not so much about how much weight the truck can haul (the GVWR). This is where we get the F150 that can tow 11,000lbs of trailer - but only tote about 1600 lbs in its bed. On the F250/350 they seem to also take into account the GVWR when computing GVWR - I have seen where the same drivetrain has different CGWR based on the GVWR package. Well, I have searched several Diesel Forums and all of them point to a 20,000 lb max - until 05 when they uped it to 23K and 26K for the Tow Boss package.

I would think a bigger Ford truck dealer in your area could find you Fords rating. .
