Mopar Fifth Wheel Hitch

Anyone using the Mopar 2500/3500 fifth wheel hitch?

Part No: 82213822
Ram 2500,3500 Fifth Wheel Hitch (Part No: 82213822)

I have the Ram gooseneck/fifth wheel prep package but have not decided on which hitch yet. Although I'm highly considering a slider hitch, I saw one reference that Mopar also has a slider model but have not confirmed it.

Most user of the Ram trucks have gone with the B&W Companion hitches at least on Turbo Diesel Register. com web site. They feel for the money this is the best hitch for the truck. Now if you have a shirt bed truck than you will need a slider regardless of what other say.
" There are only two type of users who pull a fifth wheel with with a short bed truck. Those who have hit the cab and those who will hit the cab some day." So save yourself the worry and but a slider if you are going to tow with a short bed truck.

The RAM hitch is a CURT and "IS" Made in China. In fact all Curt 5er hitches are made in China.

B&W is the BEST choice for sure.

"Those who have hit the cab and those who will hit the cab some day."

Disagree. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a short bed truck and a 5'er. It depends on the nose and hitch box design, not the truck bed length. Also, long based trucks are not immune to cab strikes. All cabs can be hit.

I'm using the built in B&W gooseneck hitch with the Curt adapter for it. I love love love it. It's one of the few products that can be removed and your bed is absolutely perfectly clean and clear of any hardware. It's a standard rail so any hitch will fit it. it is heavy. I was concerned at first but once I got it that concern was gone. I will be surprised if one is ever delivered with the box intact. Mine wasn't but it won't hurt it one bit. it took two of us to carry it out and set it into the truck bed. And forget trying to take it out with a hitch mounted to it unless you have a crane or a shop hoist.

I caught a holiday sale and a free shipping deal on it. Maybe look at it and watch for an opportunity like that. i would imagine shipping on it, if you had to pay it, would be ugly.

Happy trails,
The one that bends under hard braking with a heavy load within ratings? Or the new and improved one?

I think the Pullrite is a good hitch just as the Andersen is BUT the Pulrite is reasonably rated.

Fair question about the Andersen. Bad news is the original aluminum Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection could distort under heavy braking. In fact, ours did when making a 'panic' stop.

Good news is that it really doesn't effect the performance of the hitch. We towed from Deming, NM to Leander, TX without incident or any change in performance after it happened.

Really good news is that Andersen stands behind the product. I called Andersen, gave them the friend's address in Texas that I wanted the replacement shipped to and when we arrived, it was there. No hassle, no proof of purchase required, no questions. They just asked that I text a photo of our original hitch.

Excellent product backed by excellent customer service!

Happy trails,
NW Explorers, you're not Dr Dave from the Cummins forum that reported a similar incident with his Andersen are you? Just trying to get a feel if this has happened once or twice, however I don't yet own an Andersen Ultimate but once I get a 5er later in the summer I will get one for sure.

FloraBama,

No, I'm not Dr. Dave.

Andersen has updated the design of the Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection, so I do not expect to have a need to have it replaced a second time.

Proof's in the puddin', though. Will tow with the updated hitch for the first time tomorrow.

Happy trails,

I have a 2014 ram with the factory 5th wheel/gooseneck prep I also have the curt/mopar 25k hitch. Your question is about this setup in particular.

I have towed my 5er with this hitch several times and in my expirence with the hitch and setup that you asked about I have found it to be a sound hitch. It can be a little finicky as some will complain about but if you READ the manual and follow the instructions then it is a very good and sound hitch.

This topic always gets the different brand hitch owners saying theirs is the best....all I am saying is this set up works as it should and performs well...all least it has for me. I know the more you tow with it the more you get used to whatever hitch you do get....do your research and buy a hitch rated above the weight of your trailer (can't have enough hitch or truck) and within your budget. Mine was thrown in as part of the purchase and I am very happy with it.

Hope this answers your question about the ram/mopar setup.

Mk

Oh by the way mopar does sell a slider version of their 5th wheel hitch...so consider your suspicion confirmed.
