More fuel capacity for diesel pickup

This new idea looked interesting to me. Thought some other forum members would too. You can carry 30 gallons extra diesel fuel where your spare tire used to be. (disclaimer: I do not own a pickup, idea just caught my eye)

Just have to put your spare somewhere else.
Titan makes expanded OEM fitting fuel tanks already. Some can add 30gals or so of fuel.

There are larger tanks that fit in the stock location as well as in-bed toolbox-type tanks available from Transfer Flow and others. I wouldn't give up my spare when other viable alternatives are available. By the way, the extra fuel and tank weight eats into GVWR, which can be enough to put one overweight when pulling a heavy 5th wheel.

As I said on the other forum, that places about 250# behind the rear axle, exactly where it is not needed. The first thing to check is if the truck has the carrying capacity for the additional 250# behind the axle.

Need a break from driving I figured and get fuel then and not worry about hauling extra fuel and taking up room .need a break !!!!!my truck has 43 gallon tank stock 2011 chevy silv. Hd diesel duramax . 500 miles on tank of fuel before I need next fill up . Hauling 2013 pinnacle 36 rsqs.

That would really be nice but where did you get that 43 gal tank stock? Mine has a 34 gal tank STOCK and gets about 8 MPG towing 29,400 gross combined weight. I carry a 95 gal tank in the bed that makes a fantastic difference in where I decide to refuel, can't imagine having to refuel when I have to, not when I want to. Usually makes more than 25 cents per gallon difference, and some times up to 50 cents a gallon difference not to mention the convenience of fueling up when I want to, not when I have to. If you can carry the weight I recommend the extra tank.

I think the 3500 long beds have the 34gal tank...not 43---possibly a typo? But even at 34gal, 500 miles is 14.7 mpg. That is REALLY good mileage for pulling a large fiver...need to clone that GM.

I need to correct this post I made last night, Actually my weight is around 28,400, not 29,400 as I posted and I don't get just 8 MPG, usually it is around 8-9 and I have seen a 10.1 once or twice and that is while driving 62 with cruise on level ground.

43 gallon all day because I fill many times and put in 40 gallon x $4.00 =160.00 bucks !!! My truck is 2011 chevy silverado hd 4x4 ltz crew cab short bed exhaust brake ,hill start assist,duramax with Allison automatic, 20 inch wheels,sway control,box frame.12.5 to 13 miles to gallon pulling 65 mph .hope this helps

My 2011 I believe is a 36 Gal-I added a gravity 60 Gal in the bed. I like not having to stop to fuel up every day.

My Ford F250 Super Duty has 34 gal stock tank, thinking of carrying 6 five gallon fuel can in bed. Miss my class A 100 gallon tank. Figure with the fuel cans will have about 75 gallons on board.

Sounds like a huge hassle to me, I'd definitely go with the 50 gallon Titan replacement or an in bed one. I traded a 2010 f150 lariat with a 36 gal tank for a 2013 f350 Platinum 6.7 with a 26 gal tank(both have a 6.5ft bed) and I'm not enjoying it too much after being spoiled by a 36 gallon tank, lol! I found a nice 43 gallon in bed tank designed to fit under a hard roll up bed cover such as the Retrax. There are many varying options depending on if you have a bed cover or not and what kind. It automatically starts filling the stock tank when it reaches half full. Was considering that but I do occasionally like to haul stuff and don't want the hassle of filling two tanks and draping hoses over the side of my bed all the time so I'm thinking the Titan replacement is the best option all things considered. A bit spendier but worth it in the long run I think. 50 gal should be more than adequate to make it between bathroom breaks, lol!

Check Transferflow, I have their 50 gal tank installed in the bed of my F350. Works very well, but you must not over gross the truck or your CGVW.
