We just purchased a new/used 2007 Ford King Ranch V10 250 crewcab with an Attwood folding gooseneck ball hitch in it. It is not a long bed but has the shorter bed of 6 1/2'. We have an older Travel Supreme 33' 5th wheel that we pull occasionally to the lake but do not take on long trips anymore. We have a reese hitch in our old truck that we could use, if we bought a RV5 Reese 10 inch extended king pin or buy a ranch hitch coupler adaptor. We don't think we want to use the slider hitch. We are totally confused about which way to go. Each dealer has a different opinion. We don't want to hit the cab on the truck in turning and be able to pull it safely. We would appreciate any input.

Under no circumstances use a gooseneck adapter on a 5th wheel trailer unless the trailer manufacturer confirms that the frame was designed and built to take the additional torques and forces involved.

Although I have no recommendation about if you should do it, I used a goose-neck adapter on the 1999 31 ft Hitchhiker that I had owned for nearly 8 years without problems. It was already bolted on the trailer when I bought it used from a HH dealer. Since I was using a large goose-neck boat trailer on the same truck it was nice that I did not need the other hitch. Hooking up to the trailers becomes just as easy as using the 5th wheel hitch.

Some get away with it; some don't. For those that don't, major frame and related structural repairs (like the front walls in the 5th wheel tearing loose) that the manufacturer won't cover under warranty tend to ruin the RVing experience.

This is a B&W Turnover Ball Hitch with their Companion 5th wheel adapter and used for pulling my 34 foot, 11,000 pound 5er. It can be either installed or removed in two pieces in 10-15 minutes leaving a perfectly clear bed. I even use mine with a bed mat that has a 4" hole.

As far as a goose neck adapter - call the trailer manufacturer and get his blessing. Mine said absolutely no.
