Need advice quick

I have bought a Shasta Wings Hybrid trailer. My 2010 SportTrac has a class II factory hitch. I need a 2 5/16 ball. Can you use the adaptors form a class II to a class III hitch adaptor to tow safely? Are their any other options? Thanks

Welcome to irv2.com!
This will have the answers: RV Travel Trailer Hitch System Ratings
I suspect you bought more trailer than your vehicle is built to tow. Determine the weight ratings for both your tow vehicle and the trailer first. Then you have to make sure the trailer weight ratings are below the maximum ratings for the tow vehicle. This http://changingears.com/rv-sec-calc-...eight-tt.shtml will be quite useful when properly and safely matching a tow vehicle and trailer.

Ford rates the class II (std) Sport Trac for 3500 lbs of TT - It also appears that with the addition of a class III hitch the tow rating magicaly goes up to betwen 5000 and 8000 lbs - the payload stays the same - only the CGWR and tow rating change the engine/trans/rear ends also stay the same. Unless there is something Ford isnt telling us about - you should be able to change the hitch and gain 2000 lbs of towing. Not to mention that the class III hitch will accept the equipment for that 2 5/16 ball.

Can't find much about your Shasta.
