What I've found with the Ram trucks is 4.10 gear ratio get you much heavier weight ratings. The higher gears lowers that rating significantly.

Not an option on a SRW Cummins. The only available gear is a 3.42.

My 2014 Ram CTD has 3.42 axle ratios and a payload of 4,022 lbs. Tow capacity is rated at 17, 150 lbs. It’s a SRW.

"3. I'm see that there are some potential issues with the height of the hitch to insure that the 5th wheel does not contact the truck bed side rails. How do I know without having the truck and the 5th wheel together at the same time what sort of height I need my hitch to be at?"

Hi all,
anybody which to answer this last question? I am looking for an Arctic Fox 29-5K with either a 2018 RAM 3500 or Silverado 3500 Should I wait for the new 2019??

Many thanks in advance.

There are adjustments that can be made to the hitch pin. Typically the 5th wheel is set kinda on the middle adjustment. That worked for me.

The dealer should help adjust the hitch pin if necessary. But just incase, take your wrenches.

I towed our 29-5T with a SRW 3500 and a conventional style Curt 5th wheel hitch and an Andersen Ultimate. Adjusted correctly, there should be no clearance issue with either style hitch.

Remember, if you stay with the SRW you'll have plenty for the unit and can stay a little below the combined GVWR of 26000 that require a class license.
