I agree. The 5.4L and 6.8L are "reasonable" motors, but they're really not that great for a lot of weight.

Want a great Ford motor, buy the 7.3L "powerstroke" diesel. They're in demand, are capable of making tons of power. The modern diesels put out more in terms of factory HP, are cleaner, but won't last quite as long.

As an owner of both a Ford 5.4L and 6.8L (with a banks kit). I can tell you: Go diesel. Turbo diesel.

The 2012 Dodge trucks come with a 6 speed automatic transmission, and i can report they will start off a 13K 5th wheel on greater than a 6% grade easily. The older fords did not have the gears to tow like the current truck models. Due to the competition they are all adding tow capacity to their lineup!
