I have an 03 Ford F-150 Extended cab 4.6 v8 and am looking at a 02 Fleetwood Wilderness Lite 25' trailer
Vehicle max tow is 6900 lbs
Trailer max weight is 6800 lbs
dry weight payload gross
Truck 4310 1740 6050
trailer 4091 2709 6800
total 8401 4449 12,850

Truck manual also says that even though you can tow 6900 lbs masimum veh and trailer toal cant exceed 11,500 which would take me 1350 to high if vehicle and trailer are at Gros vehicle max weights so if I underload the two overall from the 4449 overall loan by 1350 I am ok Given the 4449 is such a high number I cant see myslef loading the 2 that much what do you all think am I pushing it to far??? and any suggestions ie: friend suggested I should get a secondary auto tranny cooler and sway bars

Any help is appreciated Thanks in advance

The 4.6L engine is not very large and it really depends on you rear axle ratio. Your 6900 max is based on a properly equipped vehicle, tow package, towing axle, HD cooling. Does your truck have the towing package?

Also, the 6900# is a maximum trailer weight and based on a base model truck, with no cargo, no hitch, no options or accessories and only a 150 driver. You add cargo, hitch, passengers, etc, you reduce the tow rating accordingly, pound for pound.

In short, I do not think you will be happy pulling the trailer with the truck you have. You load and travel light, you may be under on weight, travel on flat roads and say out of the hills, it is doable.

You need to figure the old trucker's maxim. That is 80% of max. That way you can get it rolling and get it stopped easily.
The biggest issue is when you tow close to max is the extra maintenance required to keep your tow vehicle in good running order. You tires, suspension components, transmission and driveline will all be working at max. Expect to have increased wear on all of those things.

Well since everone else was affraid to answer your question, the answer is NO. Even though you can get it hooked up and even pull it down the road, the answer is NO. You will be over-weight and a danger to yourself and the rest of us.
You need to buy a truck and NOT a truck body on a car chassis. Get yourself a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup.
