Well to say Ford is best because they sell more is the same as saying McDonalds is best because they sell more. I don't eat at McDonalds!

That is sound reasoning IMO; a 3/4T will handle most 5ers, and virtually all travel trailers_ IF the hitch is properly adjusted and sized. As to diesel or gas engine, it's a personal decision; however, a gas engine truck is not rated to tow as much as a diesel engine.

I'd have me a 3/4 too, i hate how rough my truck is unloaded though. Are you talking new new? Or used?
You would have no issue with gas. I might consider diesel if I were doing a lot of downhilling just for the engine brake. But then again, if you like diesel, get yourself a diesel sir!!! (and def fluid
I LOVE diesel's but I'm super stoked I don't have to fiddle with any def fluid, and I'm happy with the price reduction in purchase price.
The 2015 Chevy interiors are very nice. I have a hard time getting on board with the interior ford styling - but that's a very personal thing. And I just don't know much about dodge in the looks department, but from what I understand, the ram 2500 is a workhorse!

I was a total Ford Fangirl. Until we got our RAM. Within 2 weeks I was converted to a RAM fan.

If some day you want a 5th wheel I would get a 1 ton SRW. Note - there will be some very nice 5th wheels with a pin weight that is even too heavy for any SRW truck.
Between the Ram, Chevy, Ford you can not go wrong with any one you pick.

Gas or diesel....I've never heard anybody who bought a diesel say "Gee, I wish I had bought a gas pickup."
However I have heard more than one gas person say "Wish I had bought a diesel."
Sooner or later you are going to need the power of a diesel pickup along with the fact it broadens the field when you are looking for a new trailer.

If you plan on going to 5er some day you will be happier with a 3/4 ton DRW diesel, 1ton DRW better.

I agree with the previous poster about this being the PERFECT excuse to use with the DW to get a new diesel pickup. How'n th' heck do you think I got mine?

I agree with Smokey.
The thing to do is try to determine what your long range plans are for RV's. Are you going to go to a 5er? How big?
Once you determine the max GVW of a trailer you may buy in the future (say 10 years) you can use that to determine the size of truck you should buy. If you are going to purchase farther down the road you may want to replace the TV just because.
Take the GVW of the largest RV you could see yourself in and add 10%. Then multiply that number by .25 to determine the hitch weight that will be applied to the TV.
Look at the specifications on the TV you are planning to buy. Dont forget that the GVWR, GAWR and GCWR are the maximum weight you should use on the vehicle. Some of that weight is already used by the truck itself and the stuff you will carry including fuel, passengers and accessories.
Get the maximum vehicle you need or possibly will need in the forseeable future. You could run on the edge or push the limits but you would be betting against yourself, your family and the rest of us on the road.

All good advice above. I have a rather heavy (9,000 lb gvwr) 27 ft TT and just upgraded from a 2013 Ram 1500 gas to 2011 F250 diesel. Currently on first camping trip with F250 and am extremely pleased to have a 3/4 ton diesel that is 2 yrs older and has 40,000 more miles than my previous vehicle.

Never heard that before...funny. When I rode my Jap bikes I use to say that Harley had the best bikes on the side of the road. Now as a HD rider I temper my snide comments (sometime).

Agree. That is what I am currently looking at doing. My TT will be fine behind any of the 3/4 t diesel I am looking at but I expect in 2-3 yrs to get a 5th w so my plan is to by the TV now that I will use in the next couple of years.
