Nissan claims tow mode gives you either a 3.73 or 4.10 axle ratio for towing, and a 3.23 ratio for regular use. Anybody out there with real experience using this technology? If so, how well does it work and what kind of MPG are you getting, towing and in regular use?

It sounds like tow/haul mode is just locking out top gear in the automatic transmission which gives the equivalent of a lower (higher numerically) rear axle ratio when towing on the flat and level. I know of no production light trucks that are using 2-speed rear axles.

If you go to Nissan's web site:
http://www.nissanusa.com/titan/speci...-king-cab.html

Drivetrain:
5-speed auto transmission with Tow/Haul Mode

Final gear ratio (2.94); similar to a 4-speed automatic 3.73 ratio
Lower final gear ratio (3.357:1); similar to a 4-speed automatic 4.10:1 ratio

Maybe I don't understand what it's saying.

The 5speed tranny is standard equipment - they do not say what the ratios are for the 5 speeds however they are comparing them to some competitors 4speed with 3.73 and 4.10 rear ends. Most of the big three use an OD around .7:1 so a 3.73 rear end results in a final drive of 2.6 and with the 4.10 it is 2.87. Since they made the comparison, it points out that their 5th gear produces similar results. Using reverse math, the 5th gear in the Nissan comes out around 1:1. I don't which tranny Nissan made their comparisons on - Ford, GM, or Dodge.

The standard rear end is a 2.94
The Tow Pkg rear end is a 3.357

As for the tow/haul mode I suspect it acts like most of them - it simply alters the shift pattern so the engine revs higher before shifting. There is not much about it ont the web site.
