What do you mean by rating? Payload? Tow ratings? But yeah a heavy half ton truck.

my brief experience with the XD, towing about 9k#, is same as yours. for a 1/2T truck, I was impressed. but the XD has 3 major drawbacks for me: 1/ no exhaust brake; 2/ fuel consumption too high; 3/ the price is $8k too high. the XD is priced as a 3/4T, but gives less overall than a 2500 CTD. were Nissan to add the exh brake and drop the price, I would consider seriously. keep us posted on your experiences.

Pricing is the main reason I bought the XD, my SV 4x2 diesel was purchased for $33.2k. That's $13k under the sticker and $6k less than a gas crew cab from any of the big three in my area. I didn't want to lay down $50k + for a truck that pretty much gets used just for towing my trailer which is about 2-3k miles a year. I only put 44k miles on the 06 Silverado in 10 1/2 years, it still had the original brakes and battery in it.

$13k below msrp is more attractive! but no exhaust brake is a concern, and an aftermarket one would likely void the warranty. the omission is very odd for a CDT engine.

Sales are in the dumpster. Looking down the road 3-5 years if the need to trade or sell came up my guess is you won't get diddle.

6.7 is a good motor, the 6.0 is the one to avoid, Aluminum???? your watching too many Chevy commercials.

I would avoid the Ford's due to the aluminum body as well. If you need body work done expect to pay an arm and a leg for it.

Insurance rates do not reflect your opinion.

Towing mpg through the hills is around 11.2. In comparison to my previous truck which was a 06 Silverado 8.1l Allison with 4.10s , the Titan is a nice upgrade. The 8.1l got 13mpg empty and 7.5 towing the same trailer. The Titan is all around a better tow vehicle than the old Chevy.

This truck sits near the bottom of the 2b class but is no substitute for the F250s, and 2500s of the big three. If you stay under the max class 4 hitch rating its good for maybe 10k conventional towing and 1800lb pin weight for a 5th wheel.
Hey, if it works for you, then great. That's all that matters right? I see nothing wrong with your combo (truck&trailer. I had a 2010 Titan. I used to tow a 9,000 lb TT. I'm sure your Titan/Cummins is a beast compared to my old Titan. You have a nice Pickup there.

I took a hard look at them including a test drive. They are not towable 4 down and that was a non-starter for me. They also have to pretty small payload capacity because of the weight of the truck. Not sure why they come standard with a gooseneck hitch considering the low payload. Other than that, they are super nice and good looking trucks. Not sure where they will fit in the pickup market.

Thanks! As with any tow vehicle if you stay within its limits the experience should be good. The XD is a excellent tow vehicle, it is in fact probably it's best trait. It has the extra weight to make it rock solid and stable, I'm driving with one hand on the wheel most of the time. The transmission shifting under load is leaps and bounds better than the 06 6 speed Allison. All trim levels from the SV on up come equipped with everything you need tow, no special heavy payload or max tow options needed. Gooseneck hitch included! Whether you choose the diesel or the gas version of this truck you won't be disappointed with its towing abilities.

The truck does suffer a low payload capacity kinda like the F250 with the extra weight of the diesel. My SV has a payload of 1830lbs, the gas versions can hit 2500lbs, and the high optioned Platinum Reserve around 1500lbs. So yeah your not going to pull anything with a big pin weight if you follow the door sticker. There are quite few that are disregarding the sticker and go heavier with good results but that's just not my style.

IMO they're better suited for TT's. Same as my 12 CTD 2500. Although I do tow a smaller 5th wheel @ 9,000 lbs. Too frustrating because Nissan had a niche and let it slip away.
