I've traveled 5 states and yet to lose service and if you do for a short while, how does that affect you pulling a trailer? I'm probably ignorant and there are large blank areas without coverage that I wasn't aware of? I also thought Google maps worked off GPS, Verizon's service uses towers, but I thought Google was a hybrid? Anyway have them all and Google projected to the trucks screen is far better than the built in GPS or the horrible onstar. I should add that I like Garmin also, especially if its kept updated with the newest maps, highly accurate. I'll also second and third the beanbag mounts, I got one they're great! JMHO

In Canada cell service in a lot of areas is not available. That is why I want to stick with GPS and Garmin is my choice.
There is available an after market computer that you can replace in GMC Trucks, that uses GPS but is quite expensive. There is a u tube video that explains how to change your computer, It sits behind the glove box. Very much like updating a stereo. But expensive.
The thing about Google maps projected on to my on board screen is that I have to fiddle with my cell phone once I get the signal back it doesn't automatically reconnect via WiFi.
When I bought the truck I thought it had GPS.
Another thing I let my trial subscription to On star go. I get harassed all the time from On star. They sell fear and I don,t buy fear!!
I am going with a new Garmin and a bean bag mount.
