All very accurate advice. Had ours weighed close to factory spec, we would have been alright. That extra 1000 lbs, put us over.

Good job, Trent. You're a lot better searcher than I am.

I don't try to hide my various experiences with towing. Yes, I sometimes tow overloaded, but I don't try to hide that fact. Full disclosure,

The worst overloaded I've been was dragging my 5er back home from Austin with my F-150. Although I double-checked all the brakes and tires on the rig, and pumped all the tires up to max on the sidewall, and was extremely careful and concentrated hard on my driving with that load, I was a worn-out mess after that trip. Towing overloaded, when you know you're overloaded, is no fun.

Well, I sure didn't intend for this to put us overweight, and as we have all discussed many times on this and any other forum, dry weight is meaningless, what's disappointing is I was figuring the dry weight to be closer to spec than it actually turned out to be. If it had been accurate, we should have been alright on GVW carrying our gear for a weekend trip....I admit we would have had no margin. As always the best is to weigh it, then we know. We bought from a private couple, and had no way of knowing (other than online spec) until we got it home. Unfortunately we can't call the sellers up and say "well folks, it's too heavy, I'm bringing it back." So we will make due until the right deal comes along for a dually, or we will empty the storage of things we don't need to help lighten it up. Thanks for not being pissed and kicking me out of the club, I do enjoy reading what everyone has to offer. Have a good evening.

Trent
