Playing the scale game
Getting ready to pull out on a trip Friday and had the rig all hooked up and loaded so I decided to make a run to the local scale just to see where I am on my weights. I knew I should have plenty of TV for my TT but till you weigh, it's all a guessing game.
Specs first:
Truck GVWR 10,000
Truck GCWR 22,000
Truck FAWR 5,200
Truck RAWR 6,100
Truck Tow Rating: 12,500
Trailer GVWR 10,000
Trailer (advertised) Dry Weight: 5,997
Trailer (advertised) Dry Hitch Weight 756 (12.6%)
Weights were taken with truck and trailer in traveling condition. Full fuel load, 2 occupants, WDH, all gear, luggage and groceries on board, 1/2 tank of water, black & grey tanks empty. I didn't axle the truck by itself, but prolly should have.
Weights:
Gross:15,100
Truck: 7,740
Front Axle: 4,380
Rear Axle: 4,380
Trailer: 7,360
Trailer Axles 6,340
Tongue: 1,020 (13.8%)
I'm surprised that:
My gross isn't heavier than it is,
My truck outweighs my trailer,
My front and rear axle weights came out identical.
My conclusions:
I'm plenty good on my GCWR with 4,900 to spare
I'm ok on the FAWR with 820 to spare
I'm good on the RAWR with 1,720 to spare
I could probably ease up on the WDH some and shift some weight to the rear axle.
I'm a little high on tongue weight which would be a strike against easing up on the WDH.
I guess I'm all set.
