I was at my local Ford Dealer yesterday. It was raining all day and the dealership was kinda dead. I was looking for a truck. So they were extra attentive and sure enough they ended up selling me a truck.

This was a mid sized dealer. I test drove a F-150 and really liked it but want to tow a trailer that could be towed better by ! F-250. So that is what I bought.

Anyway, they had over 100 F-150's of all colors and option packages an no two exactly the same.

Since I was shopping for trucks I test drove several. The 2019 Ram is the nicest. Followed closely by Ford which has the best engines then Chevy which tied Ram for the best ride. The Chevy engines need updated.

The 5.3 needs some help. 6.0 does ok but still struggles I hear. 6.2 is a winner!

Why does the 5.3 need some help? If you need more hp, you just step up to the 6.2.

I previously had a 2015 Tahoe with the 5.3, it got decent gas mileage with the variable cylinder deactivation. Recently had a GMC Sierra with the same engine and tech. Again, decent mileage and it had the oomph (technical term) to get up to freeway speeds.

Not sure why it needs to be updated? Unless you are expecting a Dodge Demon engine that gets 40mpgs?

The new baby Duramax is coming...2019?

Come on man, the 5.3 Chevy engine needs updated. The Ford 5.0 Coyote Engine is much better.

Used to be the Ford 5.4 Triton engine was the dog. Now the Chevy 5.3 litre is the dog.

Go test drive a Ford F-150 3.5 Eco-Boost to see what I am talking about, or the Ford 5.0 litre. Then test drive the Chevy 1500 5.3.

Bolded statement isn't quantifiable. I would go test drive the Ford F-150's...but the wife would shoot me as we just bought a Chevy 3500HD DRW 6.6L.

I merely stated that, as a truck (and not a racecar), the loaner Sierra I had with the 5.3 was perfectly serviceable; accelerated fast enough on the onramp to merge with traffic at traffic speed, and got reasonably decent fuel mileage for what it is. To call it a "dog" I think is unjust as I think you are applying an inappropriate metric to the vehicle.

You have to admit the 5.3 makes more noise than acceleration. Lots of noise adequate acceleration.

The Ford 3.5 litre Eco-Boost makes a little noise and a lot of acceleration.

I like the Coyote 32 valve over head cam V8 engine over the Chevy 5.3 litre 16 valve push rod engine.

How old is that design? 20 years or 25 years?

So the Overhead Cam engine was first developed in 1902...and the Overhead Valve(pushrod) was developed in 1896. Your preferred tech is 6 years younger.

Agree..just like fuel injected engines were developed way earlier then when they became popular in the mid 80's.

Man, carburated engines were the worse.

I believe my point was more of a "neither design is all that new".

wow yall missed the whole article
the plant that makes the magnesium radiator brackets had a fire that stopped production.

BUT BENZ, Fiat Chrylser (rams) GM and few others all are effected. for some reason this one magnesium molding plant makes tons of parts for all the automakers.
benz shut down alabama plant for weeks as well
Ford stated by this weeks end the production should be back at normal .

really odd all the news on tv only stated ford was stopping production
https://www.detroitnews.com/story/bu...lted/34718903/
The automaker shuttered its Kansas City plant that produces the F-150 pickup earlier this week due to parts shortages. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, General Motors Co., BMW and Mercedes-Benz also have halted or adjusted production on some vehicles in the U.S. and Canada as a result of the May 2 explosion and fire at Meridian Magnesium Products in Eaton Rapids.
