TFL is reporting 430 HP and 475ft. lbs. of torque. To me that is not mind blowing and I am disappointed in these numbers to be honest. Especially since the 3.5 Eco-Boost is putting out 510ft.lbs. of torque in the Raptor.

That means the Ford 7.3 gas engine is a little more powerful than the GM 6.6 litre gas engine. Basically 29HP and 11 ft. lbs. of torque. The Godzilla engine is not much more powerful than the Boss engine...oh well...

Scotty Kilmer does not like the 10 speed auto trans. He says too many moving parts. Chevy is having a problem with their 10 speed that was co-developed with Ford. I was hot on the new Ford...but not now.

Those numbers don't make it a competitor for a diesel engine for sure. Maybe a more refined replacement for the V10, but can't touch the towing ability of the diesels.

As far as the new transmissions go, I'm a big fan of waiting a couple years for everything to get sorted out and reliable. I would never buy the first year of an engine or transmission - I'm not a fan of being a guinea pig.

Keep in mind in heavier duty applications the engine needs to sustain that load, unlike the raptor where it may be asked to perform at that level for 10-15 seconds at a time. Remember the Raptors towing capacity is only about half that of other less powerful versions of the F150.

430 HP / 475 ft. lbs out of a 7.3L gas engine certainly beats the 340 HP , 455 ft lbs out of my 8.1L Vortec

not sure its stronger then an 8.1l. the torqure curve on an 8.1L is impressive. have too see a torque curve on the 7.3L and where peak torque is. if its at sone crazy high rpm its junk. my 8.1 is a beast at 2800-3000

Agree no competition for the diesel engine for sure. Only has 50% of the torque.

The 7.3 is suppose to have torque down low as this engine was developed as a truck engine from the ground up. It will be interesting how refined the engine will be.

That GM 8.1 to me was not very refined. Powerful yes, refined no.

Torque curve is good but yeah.....I was hoping for 450/500. I imagine the package w/transmission will make it a superior combo to the old 8.1, barely.

I'm daily driving my diesel with occasional weekend trips now - not the best. Was thinking a 2020 tremor f-350 7.3L... I suppose with a little 25hp tune....

All it has to do is return the same mpg as the 6.2 and it will sell like hot cakes. It has more than enough power for most that tow and you save $$$$ over the diesel. For the average tow'r it will be a great alternative to a diesel.

With that torque curve 95% of towing will stay between 2,000 and 3,000 RPM. That is 1,000 RPM less than most gasoline engines. If the engine is smooth and balanced it will make a pleasent tow vehicle. The 10 speed will allow for the best use of that torque curve too.

TFL will test it for fuel economy and we will see it compared to the GM 6.6 gas. Man, gotta love TFL.

It shows 400ft-lbs at 2000rpm.

For a gasser, that's pretty stout down low.

That is the max torque of the 5.0 Coyote, and you gotta spin that one to 4000rpm to make it.

Same deal with the GM 6.6.

You can make similar numbers, but 4000rpm sounds worrisome (and noisy) for 20mins climbing a steep grade.

Waiting for the TFL guys to try one out.

Also drive a diesel F250 as my daily driver, had high hopes for the new 7.3L as I really want to get rid of my diesel, but if these spec's released are correct, guess Ill be keeping my diesel for a bit longer.

The 3.5L Eco-Boost is also twin turbo direct injected where the 7.3L is normally aspirated and conventional port fuel injection.

I heard that too. I do like the fact that it is built with the target of commercial use. I am not a mechanical engine so I have to take Ford's word that the engine is overbuilt.

Had it hit 450/500 or better I would be placing an order for one to replace my 6.2, but at these numbers I’ll just keep the 6.2 and wait to see how they do real world and maybe swap in another 5 years or so. It’s certainly not a slouch, but it’s not as impressive as the hype either.

I would not be surprised if Ford pulls the old reprogam it for 500ft lbs of torque like they did with the 2011 original 6.7 diesel. The original power spec was 735 ft lbs of torque but Ford issued a bulletin that a Ford dealer could reprogram it to 400hp and 800ft. lbs. of torque.
