Power Stroke Fuel Mileage

I just purchased a new to me 2017 F250 XL standard Cab 8 foot bed with 6.7 Power Stroke. Prior we towed with our old 2000 Chevy 3/4 ton 2wd. We got 7.5 to 9 mpg towing and had some very scary white knuckle hill climbs and descents towing our 2019 Eagle HT 25.5 REOK

We took our F250 on a 600 mile round trip to see our grand kids for Christmas without the 5er and I was surprised that the meter in the truck said we got 16.9 on the way down to Southern Utah and 17.1 on the way home. And when I did the actual fuel/mileage calculations that is exactly what it was. I mean EXACTLY.

Seems I read a thread some where I can no longer find about how off some have said the truck computer was.

I am curious what others are getting for mileage with their 6.7 Power Strokes towing and non-towing their trailers. We will not be able to find out what the towing mileage will be until April.

My truck is in my signature at the bottom. When not towing, I get roughly what you got if I stay on the highways and interstates. It typically averages around 15 for combined city and highway.

When towing, the specific conditions seem to matter a lot. A slight uphill climb hurts. Tailwinds are nice though. The camper I tow is also in my signature at the bottom. I get anywhere from 9 at the worst to 12 at the best when towing. I tow at full speed though, no 62 mph BS for me. If the speed limit is 75, I'm going 75.

My truck is in my signature also. Average almost 16 with everyday driving. Last year on a 6,000 mile trip I logged every fill up. Non towing close to 16. Towing from a low of 9.5 to a high of 19. Conditions really due matter.

My 2017 F350 gets 9 to 11 mpg towing 16 empty. I do have 4.10 gears. I tow at 65 to 70 mph with cruise control on.

My 2015 F350 dually gets about 16mpg in town and I've seen 19mpg on the highway when empty. Hauling our 16,000lb 5th wheel, we usually get about 10mpg.

You have the 2nd generation 6.7 powerstroke. It should get slightly better milage than Generation 1.

Generation 2 increased fuel pressure and changed the spray pattern of the fuel injectors to get a more complete burn of the fuel. The more complete burn should increase miles per gallon slightly. One added benefit to a more complete burn of the fuel is less work the exhaust system has to do. Your DEF should last longer and less clogging of the EGR and DPF than the Generation 1 engine.

Generation 2 also reduced noise, vibration and harshness.

Also your 2017 F-250 has a new high strength steel fully boxed frame that is considerably stiffer than the 'C' channel frame used in prior years.

Great information thank you I appreciate that.

So this milage is due to the delete? We have annual emissions here in Utah so that is no possible. I am jealous of that though?😜

Archie - FYI, 2020 is Generation 3 of the powerstroke. I had a generation 1 for 6.5 years. I can not believe his much better generation 2 & especially 3 are for power and smoothness.

Your truck should feel rock solid and drive nice. That is compared to your old truck.

I test drove a 2020 6.7 Powerstroke. Now I want one...

Good maintenance, Lucas Fuel Additive, 3:31 gear, Soft on the go pedal. Best truck I've ever owned. And boy will you love it when pulling your camper.

Our 2019 F250 CC gets anywhere from 20 to 25 mpg driving in our rural area. It has a 5Star towing tune on it and all OEM emission systems. We have not yet towed with it.
