Pulling 5er with tractor

We're considering purchasing a 5th wheel, but my 3/4 ton can't pull it due to tool boxes, etc I have mounted on it. I do have three tractors, one single-axle and two twin-screws. Are the king pin specs on a 5er the same as a semi-trailer? Can it be towed without changing either the 5th wheel of the king pin? Thanks gang!

Usually you can pull a 5'er with a tractor if, The frame is not too long from the 5th wheel to the end of the frame rails, it is a standard set up on the trlr with a standard size pin. Also, when making a turn your outside dual may come very close to the front of the trlr. Only way to know for sure is to give it a try -- SLOWLY--.

The king pins are the same. Don't pull the trailer too far without an air ride hitch, i.e. Trailer saver, even if the tractor has an air ride suspension.

Just make sure you have 48-52 inches from the center of the hitch to the pin on the trailer or you will risk damage on the front cap of the trailer.

You will be asking the right people if you re-ask here: http://www.irv2.com/forums/f21/
I have read posts on escapees.com where someone was pulling a 5th wheel RV with a standard semi-tractor. I also would think an un-modified semi-tractor would beat a 5th wheel RV to pieces due to the relatively low pin weight. The actual pin is identical, which is why a 5th wheel RV is the safest hitch available. For continued use, I also recommend an air-hitch or air pin-box to reduce trailer damage.
If you have a company advertisement or DOT numbers on the cab you may have to stop at weigh stations just as if you were pulling commercially.

5th wheel pins and hitches come in 2" and 3.5 " sizes. Most likely your tractors are the 2" for standard loading unless the tractors are set up for permitted loads.

Agree with the company logo on the trucks door. Its another DOT target.

Yepper, you can pull like that. As others have mentioned, it will be a pretty rough ride for the R V. Add to the mix, the commercial hitches don't have much side to side-up and down movement. As long as you are on smooth, level ground no problem. However, unlevel ground could cause extra stress on the r v frame and pin box. I'm just sayin.
