Just purchased a combination of 2004 Chevy 2500 HD, 6.6 L diesel, long bed, extra cab with a 2002 Alumascape, 30 RKD 5th wheel. The truck has air springs on the back and with all the paper work I got with the package there is nothing on the air springs. Called the supplier and they said the can run at 30 psi minimum and 90 psi maximum. Any suggestions on the psi that would be correct for pulling the Alumascape 5th wheel?

Any help for this RV newbie is appreciated.

Badger55,

Most people adjust the air pressure to level up the truck with it loaded and the 5th wheel hitched up. At this setting, the suspension and pinbox on the 5th wheel should be adjusted to ensure that the 5th wheel is level as well and that you have at least 6" clearance between the 5th wheel and your pickup bed rails. So, whatever air pressure it takes to level the truck would be what you're looking for.

Like Rusty said, experimentation for your particlular truck and 5er is the only way to determine the best air pressure for ride, stability, and towing attitude. Begin at 60psi and adjust after a short pull up 5psi if the truck wallows, and rear bumper is low. If the ride is too solid adjust down. Keep at it until you are satisfied. I assume you will carry a 12VDC compressor.
