Ram dash board message "Check Trailer Brake Wiring"

Was driving home this weekend and all of a sudden my dashboard reads "Check trailer brake wiring". I pull over and check the rig. Smoke is coming from the right rear brake hub. TPMS showed tire was 15 hotter than the rest. The only tire that seems affected is the right rear. Thank God I this happened while close to home and the dealer. I limped the trailer to the dealer with the trailer unplugged hoping to keep the brakes cool. It is there now waiting to be seen. Any ideas?

Internal short in the brake magnet on that wheel would be my guess???

Or the drum is badly out of adjustment, but it's probably some elecrical/magnet issue.
Good thing the Ram warned you. The whole rig could have gone up in flames.

The dealer called yesterday. They said the cotter pin that holds the magnet failed causing the magnet to come loose and shred and short wires. Said it looked like spagetti. Warranty claim is into Keystone.

You are correct about Ram saving the day. I would have never known until flames were shooting out. It could have been ugly with 30 gallons of gas about 6 feet from the rear axle.

Sounds like it's time to upgrade the trailer's TPMS to style system that sounds an alarm when the temp gets too high.

Mine already does, just have to set it up for the alarms. What temp are you setting your alarm for? Thanks
