Fueled up last night and the trip computer said 21.7 mpg... math said 20.1... Again, these computers are designed to sell more trucks. The truck has 1800 miles on it and now my average for 3 tanks is 18.7. Several have told me that the economy will go up when the engine is broken in better. It is climbing... we'll see... I'll be on a pretty long towing trip in the first part of September. That will be interesting, since my '11 F-150 probably would have averaged between 9 - 10 mpg for that. I'm hoping for a bit better from the diesel.

Took a trip with the '03 GMC with the 8.1 and the 5th wheel and got my best yet over a 120 mile span between stops at 8.82 MPG at 65 to 67 mph. Another 114 mile check went 8.28 with 35 miles of interstate driving at 72 mph and the rest at 65 to 67mph. RPM at 66 via the GPS is right at 2000 rpm.

My trucks not new enough for trip computers, so I just figure it by hand. With the 5er I got 11.3 on the clean economy run I did, I'll know better after my trip next month.

I just fill it up, let the pump click then round to the next dollar (It's an OCD thing of mine.) and let it ride. I've had this truck long enough I know how much it will take to fill it up from most any point on the gauge so if it's close to that number, I'm good.
