Somthing is wrong!! It's even worse, just called the TX DOT, the person that answered the phone said that thats all they will register 1 TON trucks at. On there registration fee chart they go up to 8000# ARE these people nuts? I thought thats what I went there for in the first place, so that I wouldn't screw it up!

I know what you mean. The first time we registered in Texas they spell FORD FOND. The truck sat in the garage for two months while we waited for them to fix it.

my welcome home to texas plates where high over 300.00
then i filed for my veteran plates and it reads now empty 5000, carry cap 2000 gross 7000

price 3.00

but we all know empty for a cc dually is 8300-8800
and gw is 13k
i would go online to txdot and get the skinny then go to the tag office and have em explain.
we live in a smal town and they are most helpful and pleasant

I am not sure how TX does truck reg. but in Louisiana the reg. weight must include the weight of the truck and anything it carries, tows or whatever. Otherwise IF and I mean IF you get checked you will be given an overweight "Award".

IN personal use it is VERY rare for a person to get one of those "Awards". But on the commercial side it is common.

"Lil Red" is registered at 26,000 pounds right now. But if I were to go with a fiver that weighed more, I would up the registered weight.

Of course the higher the registered weight, the higher the fee. (Go figure)

I've never had a vehicle or 5th wheel in Texas titled accurately insofar as weights are concerned. It apparently gets titled at whatever the dealer submits on the title application when I buy it or whatever the county tax assessor/collector's office clerk decides to type into the computer.

Since none of my vehicles are commercial, for better or worse, I don't worry about it any more.

In Texas also...

My 315RL Deluxe has the original manufacturer's paperwork which list dry weight as 12K yet the title says 9K.<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> It apparently gets titled at whatever the dealer submits on the title application when I buy it or whatever the county tax assessor/collector's office clerk decides to type into the computer. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Indiana is just as Don described for his state requirements. I can register my truck for any plated weight up to 20K (single axle weight limit) and be legal to that weight(got money?). My present 11K plates cost over $230. Is there any logic in that?

in OK we can register our 3500 DRW (2500 and 3500 SRW) trucks up to 15000 GVWR for combined plates for "commercial purposes only". Non commercial registration is the manufactors GVWR. I qualifiy for a commercial registration so I always register the sum of the trucks RAWR/FAWR. Many states don't offer a uprate GVWR but have have a sticker/tag for 4000-6000 lbs above GVWR for commercial haulers. My wifes 1500 CC 4x4 Chev for example has no GVWR on the registration papers. LEO simply goes to the door tag GVWR.
