samson st235/85r16 - 14 ply - g rated
so we have a 17 ft low boy tilt trailer that we use to haul a scissors lift to construction sites . It came with power King Towmax ST235 10 ply E rated trailer tires and we have gone through at least 6 of them blowing out...
enough was enough so just put on 4 of the Samson 14 ply " all steel bead to bead" trailer tires - local big rig trailer / truck tire shop recommended them and installed, balanced, steel valve stems for 179.00 each plus tax.
Trailer is 7k dual axle, electric brakes, conventional, GVWR #14,000 and the scissors lift only weighs #2720 lbs - would of thought the 10 plys would of performed better, maybe just the manaufacture....
Hopefully the Samson perform better...

I ran the Samson 235/85-16 G rated on my 16000# fifth wheel.
They performed well and were the only tires that I didn't suffer an issue with.

I ran them on a class A Motor Home for over 15000 miles with no problems. They use them on big semi trucks and trailers.

Is it the number of plys or is it how well the tire is vulcanized together. I would describe some of my tire failures as the tire came apart making me think the plys failed to hold together.
I am surprised that you had tire issues since your load was so light. Makes me think I will have a tire issue when I try to bring a 7,000lb camping trailer from Pa. to Fl. The trailer has 16" 'E' rated. The tires, in theroy have over 12,000lb. capacity.

The Biggest reason for trailer tire failure is under inflation and driving over 65 mph on ST type tires. I know because I lost 3 tires on a 5th wheel because of under inflation. 1 blow out and when the others were pulled and inspected you could see where the plies were separating because of heat build up from under inflation. Driving faster than 65 will cause the same type problem.

The tilt trailer is checked regularly for proper cold PSI levels...we have GPS tracker in the trucks that pull it that track speed and our employees know they are not allowed to go over the speed limit or loose their job, however the speed limits on the turnpike is 70 MPH in some areas down here in south FL...the blow outs were dramatic on the towmax ST the belts just rip appart...

Next time check the Sailun brand in that size--you will be surprised at the pricing and the longevity it offers.
Ran the 17.5s on my last trailer, never a problem; had 19.5s on my 450 and never a problem. Good tire...

I had 19.5 Samson’s on my c4500 which were terrible. Had a bad shake on front end . Went to get spun balanced, found it to be 45thousands out laterally. Samson would not stand behind it. The others faired no better with cupping and separations. And for that reason will never buy Samson again.
I put on Toyo steers and all season Continentals on the duals and love em. Absolutely no cupping or any issues so far after 5k.
Good luck with those Samson’s.
On the trailer application, you may have gotten ‘old stock’ tires ?
