At the very least get the 6.4L with 4.10 gears. Though you'll wish you had the diesel. Especially full timing. That 5.7 is fine for the half ton but the 2500 is quite a bit heavier. If I was full timing i'd buy a lot more truck than I needed.

If he had a bigger trailer than I'd be pushing the bigger engine, but his trailer can be towed by a half ton, just not full time use. Yes there are more powerful options, but any 3/4 should work fine for his needs. The trailer can only gross 7k. Even the small engine choices will pull that load. Yes I would still get a diesel, but that's just me.

what does the sticker say....

there's a sticker in the door, it says "cargo and passengers should never exceed xxxx lbs.
