Carlisle web says their 14"/15" HD have a 81 mph rating....and 75mph for 16" sizes.
At one time all ST tires were made in the USA by our major tire makers. And yes they were just as bad as china made ST tires.
But yes their changing with the new higher speed rated tires like the Carlisle HD...Provider by Taskmaster....Saiun S637 commercial grade tires for heavy regional service trailers and RV trailers.

The jury's still out on the new Goodyear ST tire. Their recent Marathons were extremely problematic.
There's certainly a place in the retail ST tire market for a quality North America built tire. When you consider RV's, boat trailers, stock trailers, horse trailers and utility trailers, the retail market is millions of tires per year.
The current ST tires are just not up to par, and public safety is the issue. The NHTSA is also not doing their job protecting the public.

I just got the new Radial Trail HD tires for my new trailer after an almost immediate blowout. Just took a 600 mile trip and no problems. I am still apprehensive because these tires don't have a track record, yet. I never exceeded 65mph but once but I do feel better with a LRD tire and the 81mph speed rating. Maybe the tire companies have been paying too many claims and decided to stop the bleeding.

Can you give some personal verifiable references that support your claim that Marathon tires are problematic. Goodyear has the plant that manufactures their tires overseas under stricter quality control.
For what it's worth I have some that are 2 years old and they have been fine. Haven't read many posts about current problems. There may be but I haven't seen them.

OK I''m not dissing you but you must be a new guy to trailering.
Goodyear Marathons have always been either #1 or #2 in tire complaints on NHTSAdot /gov tire complaints website which has 136 tire complaints on file.
Up till the early '00 period the Marathons were good for 5k-8k miles before they started having problems . Goodyear came out with a new and improved Marathon with the circle S. Some made it to the 15k-18k miles range before major issues.
This was across the entire trailering world (all types of trailers) .
Go to NHTSA tire complaints in the clicky and search Goodyear....then bring up Marathon= 102 complaints.
Then Goodyear.....then Marathon ST for 34 more complaints.

ST tires: Unlawful for use on passenger vehicles. That's all anyone needs to know about their quality.

Goodyear Tire & Rubber has rolled out a new line, Endurance, marketed specifically for RVers who want to tow heavy and fast. The Endurance is Goodyear’s only U.S.-built radial trailer tire, made in D (8-ply rating) and E (10-ply rating) ranges. And with an N speed rating that allows you to zoom along at up to 87 miles per hour

Goodyear Endurance is what I'll be buying next Fall. I probably won't be zooming at 87 mph but I might do 65 on the interstate. They also have a higher weight rating than the Westlake tires I have on there now.

Goodyear and Carlisle are our oldest ST tire makers. Some of our other big name domestic tire makers started dropping their ST lines in the late '80s /early '90s.
It doesn't surprise me that Carlisle RH was first out in 2013 with the new higher speed rated ST tire. Now the new just out in 2016 Carlisle HD looks even better.
Goodyear has struggled in the past with the Marathon. In the late '90s /'00 era Goodyear redesigned the Marathons. The new tire had a circle S and was a bit better .
Goodyear also had the G614 LT235/85-16 G at 3750 lb capcity for regional service trailers and heavy rvs. They were very problematic with tread loss and zippers. Goodyear did a redesign on them in the late '08/'09 era and are vastly improved.
Same with the Wrangler HT that came as OEM on certain brand trailers in the '00 era. Goodyear did a redesign and now have a winner.
Its going to take individual reports of 5-7 years and 25k-35k miles of service before I would consider the new Endurance a success.

For what it's worth in this discussion, I just put a set of four Maxxis 8008 tires (235/80/16) on my toy hauler to get rid of the Trailer King tires that came on it. Load rating is 3420 @ 80 psi. Speed rating is 106 mph (I probably won't be doing that anytime soon......or even later). My empty trailer weight is 9K and I have right at 4K CCC. This is my third set of Maxxis tires, one set each on other trailers and now on this one. They are not cheap, but neither is peace of mind when towing. I also have a TPMS system for the trailer to monitor the tire pressure and temperature, which goes a long way towards protecting your trailer tires when towing.......knowing something is going on BEFORE it happens.

Aren't the Maxxis stamped 65mph on the sidewall?
