The oil change interval with synthetic oil is no different than with any other kind of oil. You don't change oil because it wears out; you change it because it becomes dirty and contaminated.

If you want to try to extend intervals between oil changes, the best thing is to go by oil testing. If you don't want to go thru that process, then stick to the recommendations from your vehicle manufacturer. Not only that, your truck is programmed to tell you when it is time to change the oil. How grand is that? Don't even need to try and remember when the last change was, nor mark it on your calendar.

Lost me there. How does my truck let me know it is due for an oil change, other than stopping dead after not doing it for 20K miles?

Your oil change interval stays the same unless you install a By-Pass system and do oil analysis. What you gain by going with 100% sysnth is it's better lubricationg qualities adn possible increase in fuel mileage.
If you would like more on a full By-Pass system you can check out AMSOIL's web site. If you need more info then you can e-mail me.

Rick

Trying to remember back to my `99, but isn't there a MTCE RQRD indicator of some sort? I remember having to go thru a RESET procedure when I changed my oil to turn it off. Just don't recall what the reminder was.

In the past year I have had this truck, I do all my own oil changes and have not had to reset anything. Maybe it was an option on some trucks, or could have been disabled on mine if it has it.

Usually the oil needs changing when the oil becomes oxidized (worn out) or when the additives become depleted.

Synthetic does offer some additional oil life due to its increased resistance to oxidation, but not really that much over a top quality conventional oil. The main benefits of synthetic are when the oil is very cold or very hot.

Stick with your manufacturer's longest recommended oil drain interval.

A short answer is 5,000 miles on my Dodge.

I changed the amsoil in my last truck every 10,000 miles and the oil filter every 5000 miles.

My last oil change (same truck) based on analysis from Blackstone was 12400 or so miles. According to Blackstone I was good for another 3K but decided to change it before cold weather.

my trucks schedule is for every 15K miles.
