When I can no longer get into the bed of my truck without a ladder it's time to re-think things. Might need to join a gym or take up parkour.

Grow taller.

I can see where the bumper steps on the new GM trucks come in handy.

That said, I can still step up to the bumper and in to the bed. If I'm feeling limber I can from the ground onto the tailgate on my Ram 3500 4x4, but that's quite the stretch.

The DW has to crawl up. I've offered to buy her one of those steps, but she claims she doesn't need one.

My father carries a step ladder in his 3500.

I carry my ladder everywhere. Arthritis, bursitis, ACL & PCL knees prevent me from doing it any other way.

The reason why Ford has the tailgate step is because of the increased bed height. It's still a good step up to the new built in step. My new 250 should be in at the end of the year. Can't wait to get it. With all the changes it's easy to see why it won the truck of Texas award. Apparently they are flying off the lots. Could have gotten a better deal on a left over 16 but didn't want to miss out on all the changes and the price of the 16's will fall like a rock as a used model.

Looking at the frame of my 2500, where it goes over the rear axle in years past there was a rise in the frame to go over the axle. Now the frame is straight where is goes over the top. I am guessing that makes the frame stiffer and stronger. As a result the truck got taller.
