Just wanted to get a quick idea of what pressure everyone is running in their trailer tires. I adjust the tow vehicle tire pressure depending on the loading of the axle (so it never needs to up at 80psi), but I always run the trailer tires near their max (i.e. about 74psi for a tire rated for 80 psi max.) I'm thinking a near max pressure will keep the temperature of the tire down.
What is your opinion?

On most 5th wheels, the tires operate much closer to their maximum rating than do those of the tow vehicle, especially the 1-ton duallies. Like you, I only run 55 psig in the E-rated (80 PSIG) rear tires of the truck since that, according to the GVWR tag in the driver's door, is all the pressure required to achieve the maximum rear axle GAWR, and I'm nowhere close to that GAWR loading.
The 5th wheel, on the other hand, has G-rated (3750 lbs @ 110 PSIG) tires, and I normally run them at 105-110 PSIG.

I have ST225 15" Made in China tires that I have been running 65psi in since the trailer was new - Dec. 2003
Tires still look great - so far.
Lasting much better than the "May pop" Goodyears on my previous trailer.

I run them at max pressure. Our trailer has dual axles, so my thought is if one tire blows out, the other is in the best shape to carry the extra weight. Had one blowout and the other tire took the weight no problem. At first I worried about the trailer bouncing too much with the stiff tires. No evidence in the threee years or towing.

Follow whatever the TT/FW manufacture tells you to. Most will tell you to inflate the TT/FW tires to max sidewall pressure.

I run my trailer tires at 65 psi the max for the tires as I need the full load bearing capacity. My truck tires are at 70 psi rear and 50 psi front as recommended by Dodge.

Max them out.
I did this on my 15" tires and also on my 16" tires.
Normally, a tire on a trailer will rot before it wears out, so run them at their max.

The sidewall pressure designation max is best. Carlysle tire even states on thier website that the warranty is void if ran at less than max. The inflation charts some use list the minimumair pressure for the corresponding load table. The leading cause of tire failure is underinflation.
