Tool box

Short of hooking trailer up,is there a method to see how tight I can turn with a across the bed toolbox installed in an 8' bed.

Do you already own the toolbox? If not, most of us who tow 5th wheels use a below-the-rails toolbox that mounts on the floor of the bed. You'll find that, with most new trucks with higher bedrails, every inch of 5th wheel-to-bedrail clearance is critical, and the situation that will get you is the sharp turn through a depression onto a hill. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt (and the bill from the body $hop) many years ago.

Welcome to iRV2. As Rusty said, get a below the bed rails tool box. Ones that set on the rails do not work so well.

There's really no easy way without hitching up. The point where the toolbox might contact the 5th wheel is going to depend on the configuration of the front of your 5th wheel, the length of an extended pinbox (if fitted), your 5th wheel hitch location in the bed, etc.
