Tow capacity Duramax diesel question
I posted a question in the 5th wheel forum a couple days ago with no response so I will change the question and post it here.
I have a 2007 Silverado Duramax Clasdic ext cab 6.5' bed. Data I look at says 22,000 GCWR so another place shows my max capacity is towing 13,000 lbs. I am looking at a 5er with
dry weight is 9449
Gross weight 11,978
Hitch weight 1578
Cargo weight 2529
I may have acronyms incorrect here but will my TV tow this trailer safely?

Go to a Chevy dealer and have them pull the info on your truck and show you the various capacities. Unless you get real specific it will be hard to answer your question. The dealer will have the correct answer and I'm assuming that's what you want.

Trailer life says 15, 700. Payload is probably 3k pounds. You're good.

I have the same except 2wheel drive and 8 foot bed. These are my specs and scaled weights.
GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)9,200GCWR
(Gross Combination Weight Rating)22,000GAWR
(Gross Axle Weight Ration - Front)4,670GAWR
(Gross Axle Weight Rating - Rear)6,084
Curb weight - from spec or scale (Front) 4,000 lbs left670 Curb weigh
(Rear) 2,800 lbs left 3,284
Curb weight - calculated (Total) 6,800 left 2,400
I have 2400lbs of curb weight left over for hitch, fuel, wife, me, stuff in the truck. The left over after subtracting that from 2400 lbs is what you have left for pin weight.
Check the white sticker inside the drivers door for your truck info.
Hope this helps.

You should be OK.
Although the numbers you listed, the pin weight for the weight of the trailer would seem light. The pin weight along with all your gear is first place where you'll have to watch as you approach the max. payload, (Door jam sticker weight). Roll it over the scales.
Go here and poke around, there's a lot of good info. to help you sort it out.

Good luck.

Got a buddy with a 2006 duramax 2500hd and has towed a grand design reflections 337 from coast to coast with zero problems. If you don't have one, install a EGT meter.

I checked the weight tag on my door and it is the same as what h20ski has posted. I am looking at the Forest River Wildcat 28sgk and I just don't want to be too heavy. I can keep looking for a 5er that is less weight if this one is too heavy. I have never pulled a 5er and just want to be comfortable but not overwork the truck.

Tow capacity Duramax diesel question
Weigh your truck at cat scale and subtract that from the your truck gvwr = your available payload. I would use about 22% of the trailer gvwr as an estimate for your loaded pin weight to see if that number is below your real world payload (derived from step one above)

My fiver is similar in weight at 9200 lbs with dry pin at 1800 lbs. Towed it with an '03 dura max just fine. The truck also had a utility bed and 45 gal tank, so heavier than stock. So I was over the GVWR but under the rear GAWR and under the tire capacity. Your truck should be lighter and more capable than mine. When it was time for a new truck I would have stayed with a 2500HD but found a good deal on a leftover 3500.

Your cargo capacity is 2400 and the pin weight of that trailer fully loaded is minimum of 1900 which leaves you 500 pounds for the hitch, wife and anything else in the truck. Doable but not much left for tools or firewood. Don't plan on putting an auxilliary tank in the bed.

I believe the weight tag for a 2500hd gasser and a 2500hd duramax is the same. A couple of years ago I talked to a retired GMC engineer about "upgrading" to a 3500 before buying a fifth wheel. He you can get a 3500 two ways, trade for one or change the rear springs on what you have.

That is based on GVWR of 9200 lbs, which may not matter for an out of warranty truck. What matters is what weight it is registered for AND not exceeding the GAWRs. My old 2500HD was registered for 10k lbs.
