Head gasket issue was due to decreasing the number of bolts used to clamp the head.. I believe there was an issue with the tensile strength of the head bolts as well.

The issues are well documented on the many ford forums if you want to see what other 6.0 owners have to say.

Hence the new ARP headbolts. Part of the bulletproof kit.

Head bolts stretched due to coolant getting into the cylinders. Coolant got into the cylinders because the egr cooler ruptured. The egr cooler ruptured because the oil cooler became clogged letting the coolant flash boil. The oil cooler became clogged due to either casting sand left in the block or coolant not changed per specs.

The foot bone is connected to the ankle bone. The ankle bone is connected to the leg bone....

Back in 2003-2007 very few had smart phones with an app and Bluetooth obdII adapter to monitor coolant and oil temps. They get over 15° apart something is going on. Stop it there and head bolts last hundreds of thousands of miles.

Ford used the wrong coolant and ruined the 6.0.
Mine has been changed to late after warranty and cooler was already plugged.
I have been running EC1 Cat ELC coolant with excellent engine cleanliness results . In fact I have just determined that my Head Gasket have been leaking since I bought the truck 8 years ago and what has saved me is the coolant.
ARP studs and HG are going in next week.
I have been programed with Hypertech for 8 years and used ScangaugeII for the same time. But only used fuel and water pressure gauges for the past 5 years.
Have a good time with you truck.
The Hypertech programer for me makes my truck come to life and really takes the weight feeling of my 15k trailer.

Good point.

But back to the OP. Yes, I wish I had a 7.3 PSD still..... A dually to tow my 5er. But the youngest 7.3 is 13 years old and E4OD just can't hold up. We haven't mentioned in this thread the 5R110. It's awesome.

Chevy, Dodge or Ford... You pick. Go by any stealership and what will you find? That brand of truck in the service bays.

If you want a good deal check the 6.0. You can get a crew cab dually all day long for 15-17,000.

Get the Oasis report to see what was fixed under warranty. If it has been maintained to Ford specs then it will serve you well. Like one poster said....Dodge Cummins $20,000+....Ford 6.0 $15,000. Put $5,000 in the bank and if....if you need it to do head studs, or coolers you have it.

Or wait until Toyota sticks a Diesel in their Tundra. But it won't be a dually 1 ton.
