Towable Honda

My 2005 Honda Pilot is getting up in miles and I would like to purchase a newer one. Honda quit approving 4 wheel down towing in 2006. Here is my dilemma, I have run into many people driving newer Pilots claiming even though towing 4 wheels down is not allowed they are doing it successfully following older instructions of excercising the transmissions beforehand. Does anyone out there do this successfully with a later model Pilot? I don’t want a CRV.

Even newer CRV is not listed as a 4 down towable. I suppose a 4x2 Pilot could be put on a dolly, but I sure would not go against mfg recomendations.

On the CR-V, 2014 was the last year you could tow 4 down. For the 2015 model year they switched to the CVT transmission which is not towable.

I have a 2014 CR-V bought in Dec 2017 as Honda Certified Used with 38k miles. I have towed it 16,000 miles so far. It’s also my everyday driver.

You may be able to still find a good used 2014. Not sure about the last year for the Pilot before they switched the transmission. Seems like everyone uses CVT these days and there are very few 4 down towables.

New Pilots are either FWD or AWD and neither automatic transmission can be towed; so the only option is either FWD on a dolly or AWD/FWD on a trailer.

Remco may be able to install a transmission pump but that would be a question for them.

There are other fish in the sea besides Hondas.

Consider a Honda HR-V.
Our 2017 HR-V has a manual transmission, tows very nicely!

Thanks everyone. I just love my Pilot and don’t want to change or get a stick. I might just go the CRV route if I can’t find a Pilot to work.
