Towing 5th with 2004, 2500 dodge ram

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2004, 2500 Dodge Ram, Gas Truck. I will be pulling a 35 foot 5th Wheel. My Ram has the " TOW/HAUL " mode. Some people tell me to only use this mode going up a steep hill, Others tell me to use it ALL THE TIME.
I thought that I should ask " YOU EXPERTS " !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know specifically about the Dodge tow/haul mode, but anytime we're towing, I keep our truck (see sig) in tow/haul. Tow/haul changes shift points for towing as well as aiding in downshifting when braking. If cruise control is engaged, it will downshift as well to maintain speed on a downhill. But most of the time on a downhill, I disengage cruise control, and just tap the brakes to allow the engine to maintain the speed I want. Great feature.
On edit: Just reread your post and noticed you have a gas engine. Don't know if that makes a difference or not. You would get more engine 'braking' than a diesel would.
