towing a 1999 2x4 ranger

can i safely tow a 1999 ranger 2 wheel drive with 4 down in neutral or with the front axle on a dolly with the truck in neutral without causing damage to the tranny on the ranger

I'm sure if your truck is a standard transmission, you can tow it as long as it is in nuetral. I tow my 2001 Ford Ranger that way all the time. If it is an automatic, I don't think you can tow it without making changes to the truck. If you go to the Remco towing website and enter you vehicle information, they will be able to tell you for sure.

I've never seen that done. With my limited knowledge, it would seem if the steering wheel lock is strong enough to hold the front wheels in one position it would be possible, but I don't know for sure. Maybe someone else will jump in and tell us.
