Towing Doubles

Actually you should contact each and every state you plan on towing in. The commercial laws don't apply to a recreational vehicle. For example here in Mn the commercial vehicles can tow doubles, but the trailer length is limited to 28' and they are only allowed on certain roads. With RV doubles the first trailer does not have a length limit as long as the overall length is 70' or less and there is no restriction as to what roads are used, but there is a time restriction in what is called the "seven county metro area" (Twin Cities area during rush hours).

You can get all of the state by state information from the trucker's road atlas, and you get these from any truck stop. But like mentioned above, this pertains mostly to commercial operators. Rv's are exempt from most of these rules, but length laws are for all. Yes some states restrict trailer length, and that's for all also.

Make sure your trailer frame and hitch as well as the truck can handle the additional weight. As for the length that is up to you but most states are around 65 feet that allow double towing, a few are 70-75 ft. I have pulled a Jeep behind my fiver for several years and it pulled great, no issues of any kind, follow's the trailer when turning, never a problem. I was over length and never had any problems with the LEO's but was still not legal. We now "double drive" since buying a new Jeep unlimited! LOL.

The Commercial Motor Vehicle laws do not apply to RVs UNLESS you are pulling them for a living. For example, here in Minnesota the commercial vehicles can be up to 75' long and RVs are limited to 70'. http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/hrd...ruckWeight.pdf
