I would wire them into the trailer, including the ground, should work just fine.

I ran my Swivelwheel all the way up to the truck and plug into the 4 post at the back of the truck. Reason? Because I couldn't figure out how to access the lights at the back of the trailer. Piss-poor reason, but there you are.

It kind of worked out because I had to run the cable for my back up camera all the way to the truck anyway, and just ran them together tucked away in plastic slit conduit.

Now, I finally figured out how to access the trailer lights. If I have to redo it sometime in the future, I will hook to the trailer lights.

Either way will work.

Well, I wound up doing the same as Wingedone for pretty much the same reason. I could get to the wires, but they don't seem to follow automotive color code for the 12v and the 120v looked like a rainbow.

From the grill guard to the end of the second trailer is 61' 2". That puts me under the legal length limit in all the states in the middle of the country.

Many thanks to all who responded.

I agree, if I am doing something I would like someone to tell me if it is legal or not, if not, it would save lots of work and trouble.
