I would like to hear from people that actually tow with an Expedition. We are considering a trailer in the 26 - 28 foot range(Dutchman lite 27B) I know we will be almost at the max but I would like to hear from anyone who has first hand knowledge with a similar outfit. Thanks for any info.

Similar, Setup once a "pun" a time ago... 93 Bronco, Dutchman 260FK... (Yes The Bronco is much shorter...)
With the longer wheel base than what I had I think you will find handeling a trailer of that size ... OK... not great ... not bad... I don't beleave you will be white Knuckled if you get the hitch set up correctly. if you have the 5.4 you should have adequit (sp) power, the 4.6 may leave you wishing you had the 5.4. If you don't aleready have one, install the largest tranny cooler you can find for your application. I do beleave you will be just a tad over the Max recomended weight... but I don't beleave you would be "stupid" on the over weight side. If I had the Money I would concider a Diesel Truck, crew cab if you need the seats or the Excursion with the deisel.... but after all its ONLY money... happy trails and let us know how you end up doing...

Expeditions came out in '97; 240hp/260hp, now 300hp. Tow ratings about 7500-8900 more or less. Which one do you have? I towed a 26FK Sunnybrook with a '98--did just fine, don't expect to gain speed on a big hill. The Dutchman 27B should be close in weight to the SB 26FK, so go for it. Be careful how much 'stuff' you take with you. The 5.4 has good revving ability, don't be afraid to take it to 38-4000 rpms while climbing.

We have the 5.4L, 4x4, 3.55 rear, tow package. The RV dealer in our area said we could pull an Outback 28RSDS without any problem, dry weight 5630, sounds like more trailer than I think I would feel comfortable pulling with Expe., what do you think ? He also took us in a Z291 Zepplin and a 27BH Wildwood which is almost identical to the dutchman.

We had a 21' Coachman Lite and a Ford Explorer and it was not a pleasant rig to drive. Power was Ok but a poor tow vehicle Know several folks with Expy's and trailers in the 26 to 28' range and after a short time they had a 3/4 ton crew cab truck, Excursion or a Suburban 2500.

I have a '03 Exp with towing package. We pull a 30' Prowler Lynx 830y. So far no problems, just won't set any speed records.
