Trailer Tire Issue

Well, I've got maybe 3 thousand miles on the new trailer. (8.5 x 22) When I was chocking the wheels from our last trip I noticed that one of the four tires was extremely worn. Seems like if the axle was out of alignment or tracking wrong the tire on the other side would be just as worn?

I'm not even sure who could diagnose a problem like this. Can an alignment shop check a trailer?

Tires are stamped to be 2014 and pressures are identical on all tires. These are torsion axles if that matters.

Worn tire

The other three look like this

If all the pressures are truly equal, then either it is loaded less than the other, or the tire is probably separating.

Loaded less? We tow motorcycles or a car in the trailer and all are centered over both axles. The tires read 65 PSI all around, thus the question to the group. I could take a bad tire, just don't want to change it out to scrub off another if something could be checked to verify the alignment / other.

I know it being loaded less would be weird, but it could be an explanation, albeit almost impossible.

Certain shops can test axle alignment, camber, etc.

The wear seems to be in the centre of the tire?

All the out of alignment wear I've heard about has been on the shoulder.

The dragging brake idea, or jammed bearing might explain centre wear. Does that wheel get hotter than the others, near the bearing or brake drums?

Or perhaps something got stuck in the wheel well?

I would say that the spindles are not lined up with the tongue or each other. A truck or trailer alignment shop should be able to fix you right up. You definitely have a problem, those tires should not be worn hardly at all for 3000 miles. No more than 1/32" with that mileage, and even that much is extreme, 1/64" or less is more like it.

More checking showed the most wear on the inside edge of the tire. Putting a straight edge on the side of both tires shows the front tire to be toed out. Lippert is going to replace the entire axle so it should be all good.
