This is a timely discussion for me. We just took delivery on our first ever TT. A Keystone Bullet 22RBPR (4500# dry). Tow vehicle is a 2005 GMC Envoy XL w/ 5.3L V8.
So my question is, What make/model coolers are you buying? I checked with the dealership to confirm that there is not a factory installed cooler on it.

Thanks, JR

Transmission Temp - Thank you

Thank you so much guys .... everyone of you added to and reinforced "what makes sense" part of the question. Yes I will add another cooler and begin to run synthetic when I can. For now changing fluid more often will help. Bottom line, I agree that a GMC 1500 is right on the edge as far as towing weight and I have already discovered using the gears and not pushing .... someday when it grows up it will turn into a 2500 or 3500 but right now it is all I can afford. Here's to IRV2 .... impressive.

Thanks so much for all the input and sound advice

I've used a slightly smaller version of this one.

It has worked great for me, but my truck also has the factory external transmission cooler. If you don't have a cooler I'd go with the larger version, or perhaps a 9000 or 10000 series if you want to be cautious.

I believe that Dexron VI is already a synthetic blend. If you really want to learn about it, check out the website BobIsTheOilGuy, they have some resident engineers that could tell you more than you'd ever want to know about automotive fluids.

If you add a external cooler with new lines ,you will have to add more fluid to compensate for the added capacity.
