I just purchased a 1988 Alpenlite 5th wheel. It has two 5 gallon lp tanks in a horizontal position. The tanks have decals indicating the top position and the warning that the tanks should not be used in any other position. These tanks do not have the new style overfill protection fill valves. Can a standard 5 gallon tank be used in the horizontal position ? If the answer is no , where can I buy the horizontal tanks ?

Horizontal and vertical tanks are not interchanable. You should be able to get horizontal tanks from a propane dealer.

Its an important difference. The req'mt for the new OPD valves DOES NOT apply to horiz mounted tanks, don'cha know?

Klenger and h2guy were right on. You can take your tanks down and have them recertified. you have 10 years from the original date stamped into the tank, then you can get it recertified for another 10 years. If the tank is still in good shape I think you can do it one more time. John
