There is no standard length. Been doing this almost fifty years. Shortest is best, there is no substitute.

A machine shop can drill for closest spacing.

Just an update using the 12.5" drawbar. We went on a short trip of about 300 miles round trip. It was mostly highway driving, 60 to 65mph. I tow with my Ram 1500 crew cab, short bed with no WD hitch or sway bar. I didn't notice ant difference between this and the 8" bar I first used. There was no sway passing or being passed by semi's. I was very relieved it went so good. The Drop is pretty stable. I am still a little apprehensive of

Sorry for the split post!

-Going on a long trip, so I will go ahead and install a sway bar just to ease my mind and add a extra margin of safety.
The bad news to all of this is we were in the Keys a week before Irma hit. The campground is now decimated. We hope for a quick recovery for all there.

There is a standard length that’s used in the SAE j2807 towing standard. For WD 12k lbs or less the max length used is 15.88 inches, above 12k it’s 12.88 inches. An extension in length will reduce max tongue weight ratings on the hitch due to increased torque applied by the longer lever.

Thanks for posting the graph Demiles. I saw this and that is what I based my somewhat lack of concern with the length of my drawbar.
