What is a Super Duty Truck?

I have just discovered a Ford that is F250 Super Duty and wondering if this is the same as a one ton F350 truck in weight hauling?

Super duty is a ford marketing name. Within that they have various load ratings.

Ford used the Super Duty name For a time in the lats 50s adn early 60s
on some if its largest trucks like their 2 ton models and bigger.
Then in 1988-1997 they used it again for a Truck that was between the F350 and the 2 ton F600.
The 88-97 F-SUPERDUTYs had a GVWR of 14,500-15,000 (I own a 89 F-SUPERDUTY) During those years this model was by far the most popular truck for tow trucks.
Then in 1998 Ford started using the Superduty name on ALL of its F-250s- F-550s Built since then.

Super Duty is the general name for all Ford trucks F250 and up. An F250 SD is rated as it is rated and is NOT an F350.

The F350 is rated fro a higher payload capacity. go by the GVWR sticker on the door jamb and the GCWR in the owners manual. Then you have the F350 dually which is rated fro a higher load carrying capacity.

Years ago Ford had an F250 and an F250 HD or Heavy Duty in the line, but no more.

You are right about that last part.
in 97 there were two completly different F-250s Not one part interchanges
one looked just like F-150 except it had 7 lug wheels 7700 GVWR (no joke on the wheels)
The other was the higher GVW F-250 with it older body style and 8 lugs wheels and 8650 GVWR.
But niether one of those had the super duty name.
Then I'm Very sure it was 1999 when they put the name on all F250s and over.

1999 was the first year fr the F250 and F350 Super Duty. If you look there was a 1997 F350 but no Super Duty but there was not a 1998. The 1999 came out early as the SD.

No, they are not the same
the current f-250's are USUALLY 3/4 ton and the f350 is usually 1 ton...

I have been using an F250 for 5 years. The F350 SRW is same with 7200ibs rear axle and tires. Mine has been great with a 39ft Big Country by Heartland. The rear springs had 2 extra plies when I bought the truck used. Now with a total of 7 plies with the overloads it is realy good on all types of roads with 75lbs tire pressure in all 4. The ride when loaded is cushioned by the larger loaded tires with a standard pin frame. I had a great deal also on mine and been very satisfied with the performance. I am planning to replace the wheels to 18in with 7200lbs rear capacity to help with tire wear thus getting better value on tires. Present 265 70 17 tires have been on the truck for 4 years and still have lots of wear left and one BF Goodridg one is 7 years old and the best one on the truck.
Because I had the extra plies I could experiment and found that an extra ply under the main ply realy improved stability. I needed to keep the extra short ply to keep the springs away from the bottom overload plate. Without it the truck rear drive drove like a buckboard. If the springs touches it needs to have more supports and to me air bags will reduce stability because the main ply needs to be supported to prevent it from bending backward or down. But they could replace the short extra ply to prevent loading the bottom overloads. My top overload ply is never touching the stops when Rv is loaded on.
What I did to my truck might also apply to DRW but the ride will not be cushioned by the less loaded tires. A and I would definitly not lower the tire pressures like some owners I know to have done.k

What are you going to do with the Truck? Without that info how can anyone know whether you should buy a F250 3/4 ton or a DRW F350 1 ton.

I realize your actual question is "Good Price?" but if you pay $1.00 and the truck won't do what you need it do, it not a good price. No offense, but slow down, there are lots of trucks for sale and you don't sound like you have any idea right now.

1st: Figure out what you are going to tow.
2nd: Look for the truck that will do it and If I were you I'd go a little bigger.

I agree with the above post--if you aren't familiar with the term "SuperDuty" then you are probably not ready to make the correct decision about a tow vehicle.
Every Ford 250/350/450 since 1999.5 model year has been a "SuperDuty" and within that designation are many different towing capabilities.

You should be looking for a truck with the factory camper package. You can look up the pricing at KBB.com or Edmunds.com.
