What is my best case scenario?

Hi All:

What a great forum, I'm so glad I found it - extremely helpful.

We're brand new to RVing and just purchased a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8. Now we're looking for an RV but we realize we must get a light-weight in order to do this properly.

The Jeep can tow 6,500. Does that include the weight of the Jeep itself? I read the manual but still don't understand the limits.

I'm still educating myself of weight, etc. but is it realistic to purchase an RV that weighs 4,500 lbs, not taking into consideration anything else involved?

I would sincerely appreciate any help.

THank you,

I'm not the best guy for information but my trailer is 4500 unloaded and about 6200 loaded give or take an extra cooler or not. I tow with a full size silverado 1500 and wish I had more truck to pull with. I would not recommend a 4500pd trailer with a jeep. Way too close or even over towing rate once loaded

As has been stated before, the actual towing capacity of any vehicle is its GCWR minus it's weight when ready to tow, or the hitch capacity, which ever is lower.

I don't think I'ld tow much more than a Pop-Up or Tear Drop Trailer. But wait a bit and folks will come along to tell you that you can go bigger without a problem. If you do please advise where you'll be traveling so we can stay away. Sorry if this sound cruel, but thus is life.
