What mods for tow vehicle?
I intend to tow a 40+ foot toy hauler. GVWR 18k, hitch weight 2950lbs.
I have purchased a 2015 Ford F350 diesel Dually with the max tow package to haul it.
Are there any modifications you would recommend to the truck to better tow this trailer?

that truck should have no issue stock towing that weight.

I pull my toy hauler with a 2015 F450 and while your toy hauler is larger the pin weight is similar. Not that big of a difference in the trucks and I can't think of anything you'd need. Personally, unless absolutely needed for leveling the truck, I'd stay away from airbags. The only thing I want is air horns but it's hard to justify the cost. My wife definitely doesn't think they are a necessity. The air horn addition will be one of those items that I just go and have it done and ask for forgiveness.

I don't believe that hitch weight, I would bet that it will be pushing 4000#. Even at that I wouldn't worry, that truck should be just fine. I would use a good hitch in the 20 to 22K weight rating as a minimum. Sit back and enjoy your unit.

That's dry hitch weight. But nobody tows a dry toy hauler. So count on around 3,600 pounds hitch weight, and don't be surprised if it sneaks up to around 4,000 pounds.

More than enough power and torque to drag that trailer over the Rockies, with over 23.000 pounds tow rating.
14,000 GVWR means your wet and loaded truck before you tied onto the toy hauler could weigh up to around 10,000 pounds without exceeding the capacity of your suspension and brakes.
So no need for any mods of any kind, other than maybe an auxiliary fuel tank, or maybe a combo toolbox/fuel tank.

Grumpy ole man with over 60 years towing experience. Now my heaviest trailer is a 7'x16' 5,000-pound flatbed utility trailer, my tow vehicle is a 2019 F-150 Lariat 3.5L EcoBoost SuperCab with Max Tow (1,904 pounds payload capacity).

Thanks all. It's very reassuring to know that I purchased enough truck. I will wait before considering any air lift modifications.
I will begin to research auxiliary fuel tanks. Who installs these? Seems like a rather delicate operation.
I do intend, right out of the gate, to install as stacked washer/dryer in the closet near the hitch, so that should add a bit of weight.

For one the pin weight will be at least 20% and possibly 25%. See what it looks like loaded but you may need bags to level the truck.

+1 to getting a larger fuel tank. As I recall, your truck will come with a 36 gallon tank. At ~10 MPG, it'll be annoying having to find gas stations to refill every few hours, especially with your large rig. I replaced the 26 gallon tank in my F250 with a 51 gallon - best thing I did.

How long do you all normally drive before stopping while pulling 5th wheels? I'm going on my first long trip in June and while I'd always like to have more diesel and not have to worry as much about where the next stop is that can accommodate me, I think after 3-4 hours I'd be ready to stop for a break. Now, when we drive our car to Tennessee I drive straight through and only stop maybe two or three times max. We are staying in Hot Springs Arkansas for a few night so trip will be broken up to maybe 6-7 hours then around 7-8 the rest of the way. I have thought about carrying some extra diesel on the long trips just in case I get stuck in the middle of nowhere and no diesel. I know you don't want to push it at 8-10 mpg for sure.

Some places out west we go close to 200 miles before you see another gas station. I would want enough range to go 50% farther than that at a minimum. if you plan on going to AK I would double that.

We haven't been out west yet but definitely will have to plan much differently than the eastern half of the U.S. I can definitely see why one would want an aux tank if traveling certain parts of the U.S.

I have a 22 gallons additional fuel tank and it has been plenty for all my travels. I fuel where we usually sleep for the night. My range is close to 600 miles. The last few years the diesel fuel has been price very close from state to state.
If I would not have one I would not bother getting one.
It was very practical with the smaller tank in the standard box GM and prices were fluctuating from state to state.
Now I just stop at known good fuel location once a day sometime more if I want a break. 600 miles is a long day.
