Driving at 55/60 mph towing we averaged 11.5 mpg over a year time in all terrain across the country. I would think that you should find one in the 15k range

Look for a 01.5 or 02 RAM with a 6 speed stick. Bonus they have rear disk brakes. Don't be afraid of one with 2-300K. At 10K budget the truck may not be pretty but they are very dependable.

Sorry, but for $10K you're most likely going to find an old work truck 1 ton that's been worked hard. Any 2000 model and newer nice diesel pickup is going to pull a very strong price on the used truck market.
Best place to locate such trucks is on TruckTrader.com or AutoTrader.com. Or be looking for ads on the walls of RV dealerships looking to sell. The best 1 ton trucks have been run by little retired RV owners--not construction companies.
I have one of the last 7.3's ever made with a tuner, and it's a hoss in every way.
Good luck on your search!

I asked a lot of campers before I made my choice. The hands down favorite was the duramax with the Allison transmission. When I started looking My budget was the same as yours, but I quickly learned that I would have to double it to get a safe realiable truck. It took months but I found a very clean 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500hd diesel with 4wd and 115,000 miles. I now know why it is so hard to find one. Love it!! Bruce

I downloaded cars.com app on my android devices. I suppose there's one for Apple also. But anyway, it's a great way to shop for a truck. It's dealer only though which isn't a bad thing if you're trying to finance an older vehicle. I found a very nice F350 on Craigslist but when I went to my bank the loan officer about passed out. Craigslist!!!! You can't trust people on craigslist.....a hundred miles away!? Oh my and it's a 1999?? Sorry too old...too many miles. Anyway with cars.com you can search for whatever you want and filter out what isn't your cup of tea. That's how I just got my new to me F350. Took me a year or more of looking but I've learned to love shopping....just not with the dear wife.

In your other thread, I didn't make a mention about your $10,000 price range.
3 years ago, I bought my 2000 F350 with 91,000 miles for $19,000 OTD off a car lot. Myself and my cousin (who is a diesel mechanic) did a very thorough inspection before I bought the truck. I don't know what you may find for $10.000.
Good luck to you,
Rich

Any Ram, 2000 or newer, even with 200K on it will be way above $10K unless you find a real sleeper, good luck. Ram is your best bet as they are easier to work on and are simple.

Love my 2000 Dodge CTD. Had it since 2002. I'm a Dodge guy but I do work on the Ford 7.3 for some friends. The 6.0's were problematic but the aftermarket has a ton of parts to make them right if you have the time and money to spend on them. Makes them pretty bullet proof if you can.. Because of that you can pick them up for a little less than the other brands.

A little over a year ago I bought a 2004 f350 6.0. For $8800 spent about $3000 and hours upon hours "bulletproofing" it. Had zero problems. was great pulling my trailer. After months of planning we left on out trip to the organ sand dunes. Half way down the injectors went to crap.... had to turn around and baby the truck home. Went to a chevy dealer the next week and they gave me 10k for my truck and I left with a 6.6 duramax dully.
Bottom line how much is your time and vacations worth to you?
For me it was well worth spending 35k on a truck that let's my sleep at night...

I know several unhappy 6.0 owners. Can not in good conscience recommend one.

Truly sorry for your problems! I just hate people thinking that they can "bulletproof" those engines.
