All that is fine wool33, and helps with towing, but it doesn't address the real limitation to towing with a half ton, GVWR.
1) Find your truck's GVWR
2) scale you truck loaded with cargo and passengers ready to camp.
Now subtract 2 from 1 and now you know how much tongue weight your truck can handle.
Now when looking for trailers us 15% of the trailer GVWR as tongue weight. You can use empty %, in this case 12% making 865lb, but that leaves zero fudge factor when loading your trailer.
And once you get your trailer you will want to hit the scales again to see if you have loaded it right and have at least 10% tongue weight but not enough to go over your truck GVWR.
