Windshield mounted rear view monitor. Questions for LEOs

I tow with my rear view monitor mounted on the windshield with a suction cup mount. It is located high, partially covering the rear view mirror.

Will I fun afoul of the law in states that control windshield mounted accessories?

If you have side mirrors most states will accept that.

My concern is that I'll be ticketed for the windshield mount. The rear view monitor is a safety aid when towing.

Technically yes you could be ticketed but its pretty rare. The same applies to a GPS, cell phone holder, EZ Pass incorrectly mounted, various annual pass stickers and such. I've only read of one news report of a citation being issued but it was just one line item in the laundry list the driver racked up.

The CA Vehicle Code prohibits anything blocking your view through the windshield, including those fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror. The only thing that can be attached to the windshield has to be in the right lower corner of the windshield. The section was apparently too vague for people to understand so the law now specifically states nothing can be mounted or stuck on the windshield, except the lower right corner of the windshield, would you be stopped for this violation alone, probably not, would you receive a citation, I doubt it, maybe a verbal warning to remove it.
